Moving with a Mission

Moving With Mission!

Welcome to Moving with Mission! This website, with Ten Ways to Keep Moving with Mission, was designed to further the mission of Jesus Christ: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations. Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Matthew 28, 19-20

Each baptized person has been given this specific mission, but we must be open to the Spirit’s lead and courageous in stepping out. Each parish has been given the task of taking the Good News of Jesus Christ into its area, but we must be bold and adventurous in fulfilling our mission. In EVANGELII GAUDIUM, The Joy of the Gospel,Pope Francis elaborates on this mission: “I dream of a ‘missionary option,’ that is, a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything, so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today’s world rather than for her own preservation.” (EG, #27)

Many of us have read the pertinent documents and the helpful books (with more being published each day on mission and evangelization) for moving with mission. Though it’s easy to be paralyzed by this daunting task, we have been challenged to further Christ’s mission–always with love and mercy–in our particular sphere of influence. Pope Francis exhorts us to go out into the peripheries (EG, #20), make a mess (WYD, 7-12-15), leave security on the shore and become excited by the mission (EG, #10), get involved (EG, #24), go forth from your own comfort zone (EG, #10), bridge distances (EG, #24), take on the smell of the sheep (Homily, 3-28-13), and rejoice always (EG, #24)!

Some parishes have begun making waves while turning the ship, while others are refocusing the lens and adjusting the sails. This site aims at helping any parish with taking the next step forward. Please visit our pages for ideas on main practices and practical ideas for ways to keep moving with mission. And, of course, all these fit into the Mission Priorities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

Be assured our prayers go with you as you continue to move with the mission of Christ. If you desire additional ideas, including onsite planning and support,  please contact our office at Also, if your parish is already moving forward in big ways, please share your experiences with us!

Blessings as you continue Moving with Mission!
