At a time when the pillars of society around us are shaking; Catholic men must look again for a deeper sense of what it means to be a man of faith. Being men we look at the world through a man’s eyes. This perception colors how we think, how we feel, how we make sense out of the world around ourselves and how we relate to others and even how we relate to our creator.

• During this retreat we will:
• * Discuss how the life, death and resurrection of Christ impacts our humanity and our manhood.
• * Explore how faith is a dynamic gift that grows and changes as we grow and change.

Retreat Director: Fr. Dennis Juhl 

Fr. Juhl is a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.  He has been an educator having taught at Wahlert High School, Columbus High School and Loras College.  Over the years he has directed many retreats and has conducted a variety of workshops in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.  The themes of his presentations have centered around: empowering the laity, illuminating the Spirit of Vatican II, and journeying with adults and youth in their growth as full alive followers of Christ.  In retirement Fr. Denny enjoys helping the pastors and faith formation leaders in and around Cedar Rapids.  If he doesn’t answer the phone he is probably in his gardens

Director: Fr. Thomas J. Boyer

The retreat is entitled “Seven Deadly Sins or Seven Lively Virtues.”

Fr. Boyer will explore the traditional Deadly Sins in terms of the temptations they bring to priests and propose Virtues with which to grow away from those temptations.

He was ordained to the priesthood in 1968. His education includes: Bachelor of Science – St. Meinrad College of Liberal Arts; Master of Divinity – St. Meinrad School of Theology; Summer Institutes – University of Leuven, Belgium and Loyola University, New Orleans. He previous pastoral assignments include: Pastor at St. Mark the Evangelist Parish, Norman, OK; Rector of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral, Oklahoma City, OK; Pastor at St. Thomas More University Parish, Norman, OK; Pastor at St. Joseph Parish Union City, OK; Administrator/Faculty Member at Mount St. Mary High School Oklahoma City; Associate Pastor at St. Joseph Old Cathedral, Oklahoma City.

Fr. Boyer also served at Director of Catholic Youth Ministry; Director of Vocations; Consulter the Archbishop; Member of the Council of Priests; Member of the Archbishop’s Personnel Board; and Faculty Member for Summer Institutes for National Pastoral Musicians. He is a past member of: National Federation of Priests Councils; National Organization for Continuing Education of Priests; National Pastoral Musicians; Regional Representative to National Federation of Priests Councils; and the National Catholic Youth Organization National Board.

He has given guest lectures at: St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology – Institute for Priests; Conception Seminary College – Commencement Address – Student Retreat; more than thirty Diocesan Presbyteral Assemblies and Retreats; Numerous Parish Lenten Missions throughout the United States; Keynote Address and Homilies at National Catholic Youth Convention; The Ann Stolberg Lecture: Covington, KY; Saving Sacred Things Symposium: Catholic University of America; The Dolle Lecture: St. Meinrad Seminary; St. Gregory University, Shawnee, OK – Commencement Address; Frequent Guest Lecturer at University of Oklahoma School of Religious Studies; Participated in the Heartland Institute “Think Tank” regarding the Failure of Bi-partisan Politics at the University of Oklahoma February 2010.

You can stay overnight at AMRH or just show up when you are available; your help is always appreciated.

Current projects will include: cleaning carpets, washing windows, flower bed maintenance, tree trimming, small painting projects, some minor repair projects, sealing driveway and parking area cracks, weed eating and sidewalk edging.  I am also looking into removing the wood chips from around the Stations of the Cross and replacing the weed barrier and using washed river rock to slow down weed growth.  I am also looking at planting shrubs as a visual barrier for our new neighbors driveway.
