Theme: Making Gratitude an Intention of the Heart
Using the convergence of Story and Gratitude to discern, discuss, and demonstrate
gratitude as:
- – providing the context & content for writing and living a good story
- – revisiting the most joyful people & seminal events in our lives
– an all purpose virtue & a mainstay in all love stories
– having staying power while we reimagine our lives
– an inoculation against greed, envy, & jealousy
– a lifeline to hopefulness, happiness, peace, and personal well-being while using portions of my book to jump start my presentations and a search for footprints of gratitude in each attendee’s stories.
Director: Deacon Len Froyen
Deacon Len Froyen taught classes in educational psychology at UNI for 33 years. He was ordained a deacon in 1989 and worked with college students at St. Stephen the Witness Catholic Student Center and with the diaconate formation program for the Archdiocese of Dubuque. He and his wife Gail participated and coordinated the Sponsor Couple program at the student center and offered Sponsor Couple training sessions throughout the archdiocese.
During his years of teaching and ministry, he grew in his conviction that the virtue of gratitude was the seedbed for growth in all other virtues. This belief led to his authorship of the book Gratitude: Affirming One Another Through Stories. Deacon Len is officially retired as both a professor and deacon but continues to make home and hospital visits, serves as a spiritual director, a counselor, and Vincentian.
Deacon Len’s book Gratitude: Affirming One Another Through Stories is included in the retreat.
The fee for the retreat is $65.00 per person. As a “thank you” to the DREAMERS, they may deduct $5.00 if they worked on the DREAM weekend!
