The October 2014 Extraordinary Synod of Bishops identified the challenges to marriage and families for the discussion of this year’s Ordinary Synod of Bishops in October. The 2014 Extraordinary Synod concluded with a report, titled The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World. Pope Francis decided to make this report public and indicated that it would serve as a guide (Lineamenta) for the working document of the October 2015 Synod of Bishops.
This 2014 report provides a summary of what the synod of bishops discussed and expressed in small group meetings. It has a series of questions aimed at:
- Knowing how its content is received
- Examining the work initiated during the 2014 Synod
At the end of the report are 46 questions as part of the consultation process. In the interest of making it easier for people to participate in the consultation, and to process the responses, those 46 questions have been distilled into a brief questionnaire.
This questionnaire is not a public opinion poll, but rather a response to the 2014 synod report. Responses to this questionnaire will be summarized by Archbishop Jackels and sent to the Vatican in April to be incorporated into the working document of the 2015 Ordinary Synod of Bishops.
